The 1970s were a boom time for horror comics, especially when companies figured out they could avoid the pesky Comics Code by publishing tabloid-sized B&W magazines. Warren is probably the best known (and successful) of those those companies and published magazines such as Creepy, Eerie, Vampirella and others.
Witches Tales was one of the magazines produced by Eerie Publications. New material was mixed with reprints from 1950s pre-Comics Code horror comics and it was rare that any writer or artist was credited for their work. Eerie Publications was like Warren's sleazy little brother.
The likeness of Jonathan Frid popped up on this cover of Witches Tales circa 1973 (as well as the Old Witch from EC Comics ... and is that Clint Eastwood, too?) but don't expect to find him within the pages of the magazine. The artist probably needed quick and easy reference for the cover collage and used a photo of Frid.
