In 1991, NBC took then-unusual steps of marketing its new programming in movie theaters. "It's getting tougher and tougher to get any news shows sampled, to make any mark," NBC Executive Vice President of Marketing John Miller told The Wall Street Journal in 1990 (see above.) One of those shows was the Dark Shadows revival series, which received strong ratings but was ultimately hobbled by station interruptions during the first Gulf War. Note the reference to the 1989 Batman film in this story, a movie directed by upcoming Dark Shadows helmer Tim Burton.
