This is the type of direction I wanted Burton's DS film to take. But I should have expected the same old, same old from a filmmaker who hasn't done anything "good" in two decades. Like many fans of the original, I'm appalled at the sledgehammer-to-the-gut comedy the new movie is apparently giving us. No one's saying don't have comedy--the original was campy, after all, but let it be SUBTLE. I mean, I'll still see it, anyway, but that doesn't mean I'll like it. Can't wait till HODS/NODS finally hit DVD in 2013!
I would also like to add that I'm a 34 year old male fan who discovered DS on the Sci-Fi Channel back in '93 (when I was a 15). I did see the revival beforehand, which I loved, but became a rabid fan once I started watching the original (had my mother record the two episodes Sci-Fi aired at 11 a.m. daily). I even met the original actors at the DS convention at the Mariott Marquis in Times Square (I lived/live in Brooklyn) the summer of '93, getting all their autographs. I was the only 15 year old there--without parental supervision, mind you--and I had a blast.
