With "Under the Yum-Yum Tree," a saucy, breezy romp, the Corning Summer Theatre, is presenting the first comedy of its ten-week season this week (July 29 - August 5).
An adult entertainment. "Under the Yum-Yum Tree'' is the happy-go- lucky story of a biology student who fears that her physical urge is not a satisfactory basis for a lifelong marriage and decides to test herself and her fiance's character compatibility by inviting him to share an apartment with her for the summer vacation on a purely platonic, domestic level.
The innocence of the situation is constantly threatened by the intrusion of the apartment landlord and neighbor, who considers himself an irrestible Don Juan and and expert on the art of lovemaking. A cunning, but charming rogue, he is always eavesdropping at the door, peeking through the keyhole or using pass-key after pass-key lo let himself in at the most unexpected moments.
While he is forever pouring advice counsel and suggestions to the sweethearts, he is aiming in his own disarming way to conquer the young girl for himself. Because of these constant interruptions from the libertine landlord and the frustrating arrangements created by his girlfriend, the fiance, a young lawyer, is deprived of so much sleep his in danger of losing clients.
To repair his tattered nerves, he decides to bring the arrangement to an improper conclusion by seduction that he hopes will trap her into marriage. However, she puts up no resistance and he flees the scene with a violent case of conscience.
The neighboring wolf tries to resume activity where the lawyer left off, but his whirlwind plans to go astray with the return of the girl's aunt, who had not only sublet the apartment to her niece, but who had also been the last subject of the landlord's amorous antics.
Rosalyn Newport will appear as Robin Austen, the biology student, who cooks up this frothy experiment. Dale Helward will portray her. distraught fiance, Dave Manning. Hogan, the roguish landlord, will be played by Jonathan Frid, while Marian Paone will be seen as Robin's aunt, Irene. Dorothy Chernuek is directing
this delightful bit of fluff and Peter Wingate is designing the split-level attic apartment on San Francisco's Telegraph Hill overlooking the Golden Gale Bridge.
Evening performances for "Under the Yum-Yum Tree" begin at 8:30 through Friday. There are two performances Saturday, at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and the last performance Sunday evening begins at 7:30 p.m.

Sounds disturbingly like Threes Company...thinking of the Don Knotts role as Ralph Furley...but I'm familiar with YumYum...would really like to see it again
