It's always exciting when new DARK SHADOWS items hit the market. Even when they are, technically, not all that new. Which is the case with a pair of "best of" DVD collections that went on sale today. You can find them HERE.
DARK SHADOWS: THE BEST OF QUENTIN and THE BEST OF ANGELIQUE compile nine episodes on each disc, focusing on actors David Selby and Lara Parker. The QUENTIN disc probably represented a real challenge for editors because of the many versions of "Quentin Collins" Selby played on the series. But I suspect the ANGELIQUE disc would be wonderfully baffling to new viewers, given that Parker goes from blonde to brunette to witch to vampire to "parallel time" femme fatale without the benefit here of story transitions. It would be fun to watch this disc with a newbie.
I don't know why there's such a discrepancy in the price of each disc. Both are intended to be inexpensive "entry level" discs to entice new audiences, but the THE BEST OF QUENTIN disc is currently selling on Amazon for about half of what they're asking for THE BEST OF ANGELIQUE. These prices will almost certainly level out quickly, dropping somewhere to the level of $5 (which is what THE BEST OF BARNABAS and DARK SHADOWS: FAN FAVORITES sell for these days.)
Below are a pair of infographics I designed a few months back to illustrate the episodes contained in each collection. Click on them to see larger versions.
