Set phasers on stunned: Big Finish announced on July 4 that it had secured a license to produce audio adaptions of a trilogy of STAR TREK novels, news immiedately followed by the release of the first two stories in the trilogy.
STAR TREK: PROMETHEUS is a German-based trio of novels written by Bernd Perplies and Christian Humberg and released in 2016 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of STAR TREK. The series has been translated into English with the unabridged text narrated by Alec Newman, who appeared in several episodes of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE. More importantly, he's also the only actor to play both "Barnabas Collins" and "David Collins." Newman was cast as our favorite vampire in the ill-fated 2004 DARK SHADOWS television pilot and, more recently plays the adult "David Collins" in the DARK SHADOWS Big Finish audio series.
Newman's participation continues a long, proud tradition of STAR TREK poaching talent from DARK SHADOWS. Over the years, everyone from Art Wallace to Kathryn Leigh Scott to Mitchell Ryan to Ben Cross have made the jump to some variation of TREK. (I'm not sure if he shot the DARK SHADOWS pilot before or after his appearances on ENTERPRISE, but as far as I'm concerned Newman is Team Collinsport.)
The first two volumes in the trilogy, "Fire with Fire" and "The Root of All Rage" are now available for download from Big Finish. The final installment, "In the Heart of Chaos," is set for release in December. You can find the Big Finish sales listing HERE.
And if you haven''t heard DARK SHADOWS: BLOODLUST yet, you might want to get on that. The announced sequel BLOODLINE is going to happen sooner or later, and you don't want to be left behind. You can find the mammoth 13-part serial at Big Finish HERE. You can alsio find Newman in the DARK SHADOWS audios "Tainted Love," "Clothes of Sand," "The Ghost Watcher" and "Kingdom of the Dead."
